Dr. Kabat-Zinn will review the rationale and present status of the field of mindfulness-based interventions in medicine, psychology, and neuroscience from the clinical and basic science perspectives, and discuss its relationship to integrative medicine. He will outline the potential health benefits of training not only medical patients, but people who are well, in mindfulness-based self-regulatory practices that cultivate awareness and compassion. He will touch on both the promise and the challenges now facing the fields of mind/body and integrative medicine, and contemplative neuroscience.
